Fishing & Crabbing
Information on this page current as of January 03, 2009

Fishing and crabbing are permitted along the seawalls and shoreline of the Hudson within the NJ Section, anywhere signs are not posted prohibiting these activities, including our five riverfront picnic areas and along the length of the Shore Trail (please remember that our trails are "carry in–carry out"—all trash must be carried back out with you).

Licenses are not required, but NJ State fishing regulations are in effect and enforced.

Please click here to read NJ State Department of Environmental Protection's fishing regulations.

Please click here to read the NJ DEP's advisory page on safe levels of fish to consume.

You can also download NJ DEP's poster on recreational fishing size limits, possession limits, and seasons (.pdf file).

For up-to-the-minute information on Hudson River fishing, visit the Hudson River Fishermen's Association "Fishing Reports" on-line.

You can check tides on the Hudson on line, weekly and monthly (click "Tide Chart").

Common species caught along the Palisades include catfish, striped bass, white perch, tomcod, eels, and blue-claw crabs.
